One of the focuses for Stonewall is to help elect qualified LGBT and LGBT-allied Democratic Party candidates that support equal rights for the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) community. “The common thread with each of these excellent and highly qualified candidates, from federal to local, is their embracing of civil rights for all citizens of San Joaquin County,” said Martina Virrey, President of the Central Valley Stonewall Democratic Club. “From energy expert Jerry McNerney to Gulf War Marine veteran Xochitl Paderes and civil rights leader Mark Stebbins, all of these candidates bring a wealth of life experience and knowledge to the offices they are seeking, and their election or re-election would be a benefit to the people of San Joaquin County.”
Founded in 2005, the Central Valley Stonewall Democratic Club has endorsed candidates for the previous three election cycles. They are proud to have been a part of the successful campaigns of Stockton Unified School District trustee Colleen Boardman, Lincoln Unified School District trustee Van Ha To-Cowell, and Stockton City Councilmember Susan Talamantes Eggman. “I am honored to have the support of the largest and most active political club in San Joaquin County,” said Councilmember Eggman, the Central Valley’s only openly LGBT elected official. “With our city facing so many major issues, I thank Stonewall for acknowledging my commitment and determination towards a better Stockton.”
The mission of the Central Valley Stonewall Democratic Club is to advance equal rights for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
